I'm Derek. I'm 21 years old. I'm a huge video game dork. I love good literature, and I like drawing and painting, though I'm not very good at it. My blog is like what would happen if Bipolarity and Schizophrenia had a love child, some times I reblog hilarity, othertimes I'm depressing, and sometimes I'm just a fountain of wisdom.
Lupita Nyong’o wins an Oscar for portraying a real life slave, and the first thing she did was thank Patsy for her inspiration.
Jared Leto wins an Oscar for portraying a trans woman, and doesn’t mention trans women at all.
I think the point makes itself.
He actually did thank the trans community but Tumblr is so desperate to hate him they are spreading false rumours about him being a rapist.
I think that speaks for itself.

And This Is Why You Shouldn’t Get Sick In America
Many believe that the US healthcare system is the best in the world. Not so according to the World Health Organization’s ranking of the world’s health systems. The US doesn’t even rank in the top 25. It ranks 37th and is the most expensive in the world. I would argue that even if we had the best healthcare system in the world, what good is it, if no one can afford to access it.
Most companies are buying 60/40-policys for their employees these days, but even if you are lucky enough to have good insurance with 80/20-policy coverage, that 20 percent your responsible for can drive you right into bankruptcy as easily as the 60-40 policy given the cost of healthcare.
Insurance cost have been going up dramatically in the last two decades, long before the new Affordable Healthcare Act has taken affect, in some cases as much as 35% per year.
But have you noticed the latest trick the insurance companies have roll out?
Yes, Higher Deductible… most averaging $5,000 per year, per person, but I have seen some as high as $10,000 per year. For those of you that are wondering, this tactic is specifically designed too stop you from using your insurance. It reduces the insurance companies out of pocket liability by shift costs onto consumers, especially those dealing with chronic illness such as diabetes and arthritis. Consequently, because consumers can’t afford the deductible they will avoid necessary care to save money.
Although insurance companies are a problem, the real crocks is the healthcare system it self. A corrupt and bloated system desperately in need of reform!
Lets all agree that health insurance execs will be the first to be guillotined

. if i lived in america i can assure you i would die in my bed before i got a $100k bill for a brief stay, not happening
700 dollars for an iv im getting anxiety just reading this jesus
Sadly this shit is just so legit. When I was in that car accident in October, I was in the hospital for MAYBE two hours, and my bill alone hit 10 grand. That’s not counting my grandma’s. And I don’t have insurance. Needless to say I’m in debt both because of school, and medical bills from a car accident that wasn’t our fault.
Yeah, we joke about how much the medical system in the states sucks - people from other countries tease about it and it’s all in good fun - but the reality is anything but funny. This is why people say the ACA doesn’t go far enough. It is why I am so glad to finally have insurance - though you can have insurance and still end up with huge bills. That happens.
What the actual fuck though this is really upsetting and sickening. I’m legit borderline crying.
I’m not going to disclose how much my eventual (if it gets any significantly worse) tumour surgery will cost but its only a fraction of this and includes both surgeons I’ll require. I’m not even thinking about the stay I’ll need in hospital, medications that will follow presumably for the rest of my life nor the following checkups for the neurosurgeon. A TINY fraction of those costs up there all because I live in a different country and have some healthcare. Don’t get me started on surgeries other family members have had, or hospital visits, which are about the same or even less than what I will need.
And everything up there is just ridiculous? What the actual fuck at the figures breaking 50k? And that some of the smaller things like the allergic reaction racking up what will end up being approximately my entirestudent debt through two university degrees? I can’t think of how the average person would be able to pay any of that shit off. I just… fuck.
So the first time I reblogged this, I somehow missed the last image of the “outrageous hospital bill for having a baby in canada” and i just laughed bitterly because jfc if only i had received a bill for only 160 fucking dollars for Elijah. What’s hilarious is that I lived in Alberta and that would have been my bill. Paying only for a private room. For…four days? (i realize the canadian picture was included for contrast. it still makes me hella bitter.)
I spent 36 hours in the hospital when I had my son. My hospital bill, just for myself, was around $18k before insurance did its thing (I had about $1k left of my deductible, and then 20% after that. whatever). Then Elijah’s bill (as in the newborn child who doesn’t even open his eyes that much or do much of anything as he is only just born) was $2k. Two fucking thousand dollars. For a perfectly healthy child. For 24 hours. He and I stayed in the hospital for one night. I had zero complications (technically) giving birth, I didn’t have any painkillers during labour, and i only accepted advil twice overnight and between the two of us my hospital stay was apparently worth $20k. And then I was billed later by my OB/GYN because the doc delivering Elijah wasn’t actually included with the hospital bills, or anything the dumb twit did for me (she was actually certifiably stupid).
I had an “easy”, complication free labour, and such a healthy baby that they released us both from the hospital only 24hrs after I gave birth, and the entire thing in the end costed about $21k.
This does not include the $2k I put into required OB/GYN visits before giving birth or the other money put into sonograms and other tests, or the $7-$10k for the fucking stupid (and false) pre-eclampsia (sp?) scare i was put through a month before giving birth.
I was fortunate enough to have insurance and due to other circumstances in my life the hospital bills got zeroed off (but i still had to pay my OB/GYN), but I can’t imagine what other young women with unexpected pregnancies and no insurance go through in the United States. The stress of being a mom to what might be an unexpected (and/or unwanted child) as well as seeing bills that amount to the cost of college tuition come in the mail?
Part of me seriously regrets giving birth to Elijah here, just for the stress of seeing those bills constantly coming in the mail with more 4 or 5 digit figures.
In the past, I’ve put off going to the hospital because I was scared of the medical bills. And there are people in this country who would rather die in their homes then receive medical help. And that is just so fucked up. So fucked up.
Just a small bit of information that I remembered.
One of my coworkers had a MRI on her knee at a private clinic in Alberta. She paid a little over $1000.
I live in the UK and I knew that you had to pay for medical care in the US but fucking W H A T?! I am absolutely mortified at these figures, how the fuck can this even be a thing and a legal thing at that???!!!!!??!?! I have no words omfg I just hope this fucking changes because it is absolutely outrageous.

Toy Story mentally fucked a generation of kids.
PLEASE READ. WILL NOT HURT TO AND FORWARD.
Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles
and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the rubbish, but you’ll never make it!!!
If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is
boiling hot as well.
Don’t pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc.
Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil.
Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.
Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also informed of this.
I’ve dealt with these before. If you find one:
- Do not touch it
- Do not touch it
- Clear the area around it. It will explode on its own in time.
- Once it explodes, do not make contact with the liquid inside. If needed, flush it away with large amounts of water.
- Do not try to detonate it. You’ll probably be disfigured.
I’ve seen what these can do. The acidic liquid inside can strip the paint off a car.
when i visited vancouver these were everywhere. it’s not a fucking joke they’re actually scary
Just a reminder that there are awful shitty people out there doing awful shitty things to everyone else
there was a bunch of these at disneyland
i found one in my back yard, when i let my dogs out, i pulled them back inside, took my cousins bb shotgun and shot it from a safe distance (i was in my house and shot from the screen door. When it went off, my family and neighbors came running to see if everything was ok. I told them what happened and to watch out for them.
These things are not a joke! When we went to check the damage there was a fucking hole in the ground. The dirt in my yard is like CLAY.
This shit is bad news

Wanted to share this helpful tool with anyone who needs it. A lot of people have a hard time putting their feelings into words and identifying what emotions they are feeling. This is called a feeling wheel. It can help you get to the core emotion you are experiencing and help you name each feeling when you’re overwhelmed with many emotions
this is so cool
Well, he was sorta asking for it, dressing in such flammable clothing.
if he didnt want to get set on fire, he should have stayed indoors
He must have been drinking alcohol. That stuff is flammable. Of course it was going to happen when booze was involved.
didn’t his parents ever teach him not to get set on fire?
I love tumblr
